Vol. 6 Issue 2

The Lake Elsinore Storm is proud to be continuing the annual Reading for Rewards program, presented by the Riverside County Office of Education and Union Bank of California.

Now in its ninth season, this program encourages students to read 10 books while rewarding them with two free tickets to a ball game. Since late January, members of the Storm front office have been visiting local schools to introduce the program to students.  As part of the visit, Thunder, the Storm mascot, joins the Storm staff in an interactive presentation of the classic baseball poem, “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Thayer.

After the presentation students receive bookmarks to record the titles of the books that they will read.  In 2008, nearly 60,000 bookmarks will be distributed to students throughout Riverside County.
