Former Storm make historical trip to China Get out your pencil and scorecards and follow your Lake Elsinore Storm, rather the San Diego Padres, as the Storm parent club embarks on a spring training journey to China this week. The Padres sent 26 players, including 14 Storm alumni, to be a part of an historic match up in Beijing where San Diego will play two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 15-16 (March 14-15 in the U.S.), the first Major League games ever played in China. Justin Germano (’02-’03 Storm) will start game one and Cesar Ramos (’06 Storm) will start game two against their N.L. West rivals. Other former Storm traveling to China in this once-in-a-lifetime experience include pitchers Paul Abraham (’05), Ernesto Frieri (’07), Josh Geer (’06), Wilton Lopez (’07) and Jared Wells (’04). Former Storm position players include catchers Nick Hundley (’06) and Jose Lobaton (’06-‘07), infielders Matt Antonelli (’07), Brett Dowdy (’05-’06) and Kyle Blanks (’07), and outfielders Mike Baxter (’07) and Drew Macias (’05). In addition, current Padres’ first base coach and former Storm manager Rick Renteria (’04-’06) along with bullpen catcher Justin Hatcher (’07) made the trip. The games will be played at Wukesong Stadium, which was built for the upcoming summer Olympics in August, and the trip will include a visit to the Great Wall of China as well as other tourist ventures in and around Beijing.
