GO GREEN WEEKEND
The Lake Elsinore Storm, class-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, who were the first professional sports franchise to present a promotional night encouraging health and sustainability will present a “Go Green Weekend.”  The Storm will host the Modesto Nuts April 17-20 at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore.  The Storm will bring in a variety of businesses and non-profit groups to educate fans about simple changes they can make in every day life to conserve natural resources.  “We want to continue to build on the success of last year’s promotion at a local level while hopefully influencing other sports facilities at a national level,” said Storm President Dave Oster.  “It’s great to see other teams adding this valuable promotion to their schedules.”

On Friday, the weekend will kickoff with a Community Leader Business Mixer with drinks and appetizers in the Diamond Club restaurant from 5-6:30pm.  In addition, the first 1,000 cars to pull into the parking lot will receive a Storm Car Sunshade courtesy of Southern California Toyota Dealers.

Saturday’s festivities will begin at 5pm with the 2nd Annual Health and Sustainability Festival which will include a vendor village lining the walk way towards the main entrance.  Fans will have access to information from all sorts of businesses that focus on helping to maintain a sustainable earth.  The first 2,500 fans will get a Storm Seeded Postcard presented by Coca-Cola.

The team’s goal is to become the first professional sports franchise with an existing stadium to become LEED certified and are challenging all other sports facilities and teams to become leaders of their communities in setting examples for others in the environmental arena

FORmer storm
After Padres catcher Michael Barret suffered a strained elbow on April 7 in an 8-4 win over the San Francisco Giants, former Storm catcher Colt Morton was promoted to the big league club for the second time in as many years.  The 6’ 5” slugger from Fort Lauderdale, Florida started the season in double-A San Antonio.  He got in on the action April 8 as a pinch runner and ended up scoring.  Colt was promoted to Lake Elsinore in 2005 from Ft. Wayne where he proceeded to hit .323 in 96 at bats with nine big flies.  Colt played 53 games for the Storm in 2006 where he hit 15 doubles and five homers.  Morton played six games in a rehab stint for Lake Elsinore last season, so Storm fans will definitely keep an eye on one of their own, Colt Morton, as he gets a chance in the Big Leagues.
